2. Edge Computing Goes Mainstream
Traditional hosting serves content from one or a few data centers. Edge computing distributes your application across hundreds of locations worldwide, bringing content closer to every user.
Vercel, Cloudflare Workers, and Deno Deploy have pioneered this approach for developers. Now traditional hosts like SiteGround and Bluehost are adding edge capabilities to their mainstream plans.
The result: faster load times globally without the complexity of managing a CDN separately.
3. Green Hosting Becomes Table Stakes
With climate awareness at an all-time high, hosting providers can no longer ignore their environmental impact. Data centers consume about 1–1.5% of global electricity. Leading providers are responding.
Google Cloud (SiteGround's infrastructure) now runs on 100% renewable energy. GreenGeeks offsets 300% of its energy use. DigitalOcean has committed to carbon-neutral data centers by 2027.
